They’re Having a Hard Time, Not Giving You a Hard Time

Uncategorized

How this one mindset shift transforms both motherhood and photo sessions as a documentary family photographer in Chicago

There’s a parenting mantra I use almost every day.

It’s the one I whisper under my breath during the messy, overstimulating moments…the ones where I want to hide in the bathroom with a snack and my phone.

It goes like this:
“They’re having a hard time, not giving me a hard time.”

Read that again. Let it really land.

Because when your toddler is melting down mid-photo session…

When your child is clinging to your leg while you try to make lunch…

When someone flat-out refuses to wear pants and you’re already late…

It’s not about you.

They’re not trying to make your life harder. They’re just overwhelmed. Dysregulated. Tired. Or maybe just three years old.

This Is How I Photograph Families

When I document families in the Chicagoland area—especially families with little kids—this is the lens I bring to your session.
(Not just my camera lens, either.)

I hold space for your child’s full humanity…messy, wild, emotional, sensitive, beautiful.
I expect real life. I welcome it.

So if you’ve ever skipped family photos because you were scared your child wouldn’t cooperate…

I see you. And I made this space for you.

You don’t have to perform.

You don’t have to keep it together.

You just have to show up—with your love, your connection, your real, imperfect, wonderful life.

Family Photography in Wheaton and the Chicago Suburbs

I specialize in documentary-style family sessions for moms who care more about connection than perfection.
Whether you’re in Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Elmhurst, Naperville, or anywhere in the Chicago suburbs—this work is for you.

These are the photos that will help you remember what motherhood felt like—not just what it looked like.
