Why is it so hard for Moms to make themselves a priority?
As a mom myself I know how hard it is to make time for yourself and to make your mental health a priority. As a pregnant mom you aren't really thinking about how you are going to spend time alone after baby arrives, but after baby makes his or her arrival it hits you like a ton of bricks. Those few weeks postpartum you may be overcome with some feelings of anxiety about how you are ever going to spend a second alone or do anything for yourself ever again!
I created this list of new mom self-care ideas and steps to plan ahead!
I also included a FREE self-care planner at the end of this blog for you to download!
Child-free self-care away from home:
When you are able to get that time to yourself and childcare is covered these are some amazing ways to pamper yourself and refill your cup!
Massage or Chiropractic adjustment
Getting your nails done
Yoga class
Go on a coffee date with yourself!
Get together with some other mom friends to make your baby photo-books together.
Join a moms fitness class - great for your health & helping make new mom friends!
Go to the library or a coffee shop to read a book or journal.
Go get your hair and make up done and meet some friends for dinner.
Go on a date night with your spouse.
Take a cooking class.
Go for a walk or bike ride.
Go for a drive & listen to music or podcasts that bring you joy.
My favorite self-care idea!
Getting a hotel room for yourself!
When I really needed time to myself I would book a night at a hotel alone. I would order food in and just relax watching movies or my favorite shows. I recommend bringing your favorite snacks, some face masks, comfy clothes, and don't forget your pump if you're nursing! It was always so nice to get full night sleep and even sleep in a little!
Self-care at home with baby:
Take herb bath with baby or while baby sleeps in a carrier next to the tub
Take care of your health! Drink a nutritious smoothie.
Go for a walk together.
Sing and dance with your baby to your favorite songs.
Do some yoga and stretches with your baby.
Spend nap time binging an episode of your favorite show with a face mask on (the dishes can wait!)
Tips:
Plan car trips around nap times. Get in the car before nap so while they sleep you get some quiet time in the car to listen to your own music or a podcast.
